Every player who isn’t already rolling in virtual item dough wants to know how to make money in Diablo 3. There’s a few tactics and tricks I can share with you. If you like this post specifically, then share the link with a friend. I tried to give out the best information I could! =)
Be as Efficient as POSSIBLE
Unless you are selling gold for money on the “black market” with a gold website or through trades on a forum, you should be thinking about how fast you are moving items on both the real money auction house and the gold auction house. The 250 dollar/20 million gold items aren’t always worth pursuing, nor are the really small value markets. For me, middle road to middle-high items go the fastest and make the most through the course of a day. I’ve only sold 1x 250 dollar item so far.
As most people know, you can only list a maximum of 10x items on each auction house. My first suggestion is to use more than one account to list auctions. I recommend at least 3x accounts if you are serious. There has been a few sales for Diablo 3 copies for as little as ~40 dollars a copy. Usually you can find a copy for ~50 dollars. Make sure you find a legit site lol.
I don’t know how people were doing it, but some people have gotten free copies (probably from hacking). And no… finding a free version is not something as easy as torrenting.
BTW I highly, highly recommend getting dual monitors. You’re able to look up information or guides and can multitask very efficiently without minimizing. Even if you don’t use it for Diablo 3, you can use it for so many things!
Want Multiple Versions of the Game?
You can open more than 1x Diablo 3 window by making multiple copies of Diablo III.exe and renaming the .exe in the Diablo III folder. Rename them Diablo III A and Diablo III B, then make shortcuts for each. Be sure to put -launch at the end of the target when right clicking and selecting properties on the shortcut. (Requires good graphics card to run multiple games, unless you use a low resolution)
Another way is to make virtual machines with Vmware and to install Diablo 3 in the virtual machine (Requires an extra 4+ GBs of Ram per machine and decent at least 25GB space and a solid speed on your hard drive/sold state drive)
Farming (Inferno)
A) You can gold find or magic find in easy farming spots.
B) You can deck out your character in the best gear in the game that happens to have magic find to mow down elites in act 4 (now has the best drop rates as of the recent patch)
C) You can magic find while multiboxing by finding resplendant chests in act 3/goblins in act 2 and joining the game with your other characters before looting.
Cheating
A) Bot – Botting is a very lucrative method. There are many Autoit scripts available if you search for them. Most of the scripts are for gold finding or auction house scripts that find items at specific prices. The gold finding scripts can get you up to 400k an hour, but are not very versatile. I expect these heavily botted locations to get nerfed soon. Demonbuddy, Hellbuddy (people were banned last banwave for this one), D3Advanced (discontinued, owner contacted by blizzard so he took it down). If you want something outside of public scripts, there are better polished scripts for sale if you look for them. If you choose to bot, there’s always a risk of a ban. Be sure to laundry (xfer) items and gold to an alternative account.
B) Exploit - I’ve seen a few way the game can be exploited. There will always be a few natural exploits whatever time period the game is in. A couple huge exploits that come to mind are the latest 2x Diablo 3 duping methods. Friends were duping items by disconnecting a buddy right after trading crating materials and then crafting items. They would not lose and gold or materials from crafting, but would gain the crafted items after the disconnect. It required at least 2 people. This was patched shortly after it became common knowledge.
The second dupe method had to do with the glitch that allowed you to cancel any auctions at any time. The time on the auction house is client side based. People were able to revert their clocks a few days and cancel items whenever they wanted. They would get a friend to bid on items and they would cancel their auctions, the bidder would get their gold back and the item lister would too.
There are more exploits than have been available and I’m sure there will be more that will come out. Stay tuned and look around and you may be able to spot one right when it becomes public knowledge.
C) Hack I know of one way to hack Diablo 3, although I don’t recommend doing it. There is a program called Cheat Engine that allows you to view various code in the game. Unless you have programming knowledge or an Iron Will, it may be extremely frustrating. I’m sure people have already figured out how to do a lot with this program. This program can be used in many, many games.
D) Scam – If you’d like to scam you should rethink your life. There are ways to do this either with autoit scripts or by simply being an asshole. The chances of getting caught are high. If you feel like resorting to this, you might as well read How to Make Money in Diablo 3 again.
Playing the Auction House
There are a few ways to do this. You can bid on low priced items and follow them or you can buyout deals you see and flip them for more (always be aware of the cuts – 15% gold, 1 dollar or 15% RMAH). The best way to play the auction house is to record prices and follow trends. Finding niches will save you time in the long run instead of wildly searching. Some set items, some legendaries, specific rings and amulets, and commodities are places where I recommend starting. I’ve specifically had success in each of these niches.
I actually recorded prices for commodities on an excel spreadsheet for over a week – every 5 hours, every day. (I can give this to people or post the data if requested) I was able to find out which commodities were worth checking out on a daily basis, which markets were crashing, which items to keep an eye on and which were going up in value. It takes a bit of work and dedication, but it can be well worth it. I’ve made 10′s of millions of gold this way.
Trick – If you have multiple accounts and see someone bidding on your item, you can raise the bid with one of your other accounts to make people bid war against you. There’s a little risk if they decide to stop bidding (15% cut if it’s gold)…. I was able to raise an item for 3 million gold in the last hour of an item. Yes it’s cheap, but w/e.
Expand your Horizons
If you’re U.S don’t be afraid of European servers and vice versa. You can use a proxy/VPN from that location and get an account that receives the other currency. It’s another way to list additional auctions for free! Be aware it’s a completely different region meaning you’ll have to acquire gold and items all over again.
Hardcore mode by default is more lucrative. Where there’s more risk, there’s more reward. Since items are deleted with your character, the economy always stays even keel (softcore economy is constantly inflating). Be aware there is no real money auction house as of now. People are trading gold for money on forums. The gold for hardcore is worth at least 10x as much as softcore gold as of now. This is just a thought not necessarily a suggestion. I’ve been considering it for a while. Don’t get mad at me if you get a decked level 60 in hardcore and die!
Streaming? =P
(This method doesn’t really answer the question, how to make money in Diablo 3? But it makes money and involves Diablo 3!)
If you play a lot, have a snazzy voice and chat on skype with people a lot, streaming may be for you! I’ve watched a few Diablo 3 streams and some gamers have up to 7000+ people watching at a time. I don’t see how watching them kill monsters over and over is entertaining, but people watch. Usually streamers spill a bit of knowledge about the game.
You’d be surprised how lucrative it can be. They get paid 5 dollars for 1000 viewers, every 20 minutes because of Advertisements. Do the math – that’s a lot of money. The best stream site is Twitch.tv. (You need a pretty decent net connection for this). You’d laugh if you knew how little I was making from website advertisements =(
Personally when PvP is released I’ll probably make a stream for fun just to see how many people I can get to watch. If you’re bored you can come and watch me rage or own somebody.
