I haven’t wrote a post in a LONG TIME… Ever since the release of the game, I’ve either been playing it nonstop or have been trying to recover from the marathon. I’ve logged at least 275 hours in about 3 and a half weeks. I have 5x level 60′s across several account.
My Ranking for the Best Diablo 3 Class for Inferno:
1) Demon Hunter – DH is the top dog. Must be played as a glass cannon (AKA stack dex/attack speed, crit chance, CRIT DAMAGE), Lacks the chance to survive a hit, but does WAY too much damage. There are videos of geared demon hunters killing inferno bosses in under 10 seconds. If you choose to go this route, expect to get 1 shotted by everything! At least smoke screen makes you invisible and immune to damage spells. (You will have roughly 30-35% dodge which is nice, but your survivability is completely luck based)
2) Wizard- Very well rounded. Can survive and dish out a reasonable amount of damage from long range. You have a larger choice in builds. (Demon Hunter usually needs to grab nether tentacles, hungering arrow, caltrop and smokescreen. I also see them pick up impale.) I think energy armor and archon is overpowered. (Energy armor runed, Armor + Resistance is exceptional.
3) Witch Doctor – Medium ranged gimps the Witch Doctor. The crowd control makes the Witch Doctor pretty good. Spirit walk is really similiar to the Demon Hunter’s smoke screen (very good ability). Zombie Bears is the best damage ability, but cost a lot of mana. I have some friends who complain about Witch Doctor’s mana and say that the class has been bottlenecked by it’s poor resource design. I still think this class isn’t too bad compared to melee. I’ve heard they are buffing pets as zombie dogs are useless atm.
4/5) Monk/Barb – Melee in general is pretty garbage right now. Inferno mobs dish out a lot of damage. (They have been nerfed when groups are together tho.) Even though melee gets 30% damage reduction… it’s not enough right now. I hear Barbs specifically stack at least 700 resistances. The problem is that when you stack so much defense, you have no damage. I know in hardcore mode, melee is actually a pretty good choice. People are already in act 3 in Inferno in hardcore. I’ve watched a few streams and Barbarians have to kite and round up a bunch of monsters and pop cool downs just to kill anything. I’d say Monk is a bit better than the Barbarians state in inferno. (Note that geared barbs/monks should be very competitive with other classes due to the 30% damage reduction and self healing, I do not recommend playing 1 because I’m talking several 100 million gold worth of gear)
Hardcore is the opposite of the class selection for Softcore. The high damage classes do better farming wise in softcore, but have a chance to die often. The melee and Witch Doctor has better survivability, but lacks in other areas. I suggest playing ranged right now if you want to have an easier time. They are simply less gear dependent right now. Once melee gets buffed, I expect them to be overpowered because of the 30% damage reduction. Inferno has given people a lot of trouble, I expect Blizzard to change around the content some within a couple months. I’d say the best Diablo 3 class for Inferno is Demon Hunter for killing power and Wizard for overall capability. Good luck with your choice.
